1840670 Jesus’ final moments – Matthew 27:45-50, Mark 15:33-37, Luke 23:44-46, John 19:28-30, Friday April 15 A.D. 29  Jerusalem

And it was now about the sixth hour.  Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness all over the whole land until the ninth hour.  The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eli Eloi, Eli Eloi, lama sabachthani?”  That is, being interpreted, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”  And some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, “And behold, this man is calling Elijah.”  And immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink.  And the rest said, “Let him be.  Let us see whether Elijah comes to save him and take him down.”

And after this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty.”  And there was a vessel full of vinegar set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth.  And when Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!  It is finished.”  Having said this, he bowed his head, and yielded up his spirit.
