1590645 Mob comes to arrest Jesus – Matthew 26:47-56, Mark 14:43-52, Luke 22:47-53, John 18:2-12, Friday April 15 A.D. 29 Jerusalem
And immediately, while he was still speaking, behold, he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, came. Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. Judas then, came there, and was leading them having taken with him a great multitude and a detachment of soldiers and officers with swords, clubs, lanterns, torches, and weapons from the chief priest, the Pharisees, the scribes, and the elders of the people.
And Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went forth, and said to them, “Who are you looking for?” And they answered and said to him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” And Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them. And when therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” And Jesus answered and said, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,” that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost not one.”
Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, “Whoever I will kiss, he is the one. Take him and lead him away safely.” But Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss? Friend, do that for which you have come.” Immediately when he had come, he came near to Jesus to kiss him and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed him. And when those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said to him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” Then they came and laid their hands on Jesus, and took him. But behold, a certain one of those who were with Jesus, Simon Peter, who stood by, therefore, having a sword, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck and cut off his right ear. And the servant’s name was Malchus. But Jesus therefore answered and said to Peter, “Let them do this”—and he touched his ear, and healed him. Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place (sheath), for all those who take the sword will die by the sword. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it? Or do you think that I could not ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels? How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?”
In that hour Jesus answered and said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, and to the multitudes who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me? When I was with you and sat daily with you in the temple teaching, you did not stretch out your hands against me and arrest me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. All this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled. So the detachment, and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him. A certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth thrown around himself, over his naked body. And they grabbed him, but he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
