And it happened after about six to eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John his brother and went and brought them up into a high mountain privately by themselves to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transfigured into another form in front of them and his face shone like the sun, and his clothing and garments became dazzling and glistening, exceedingly white, as white as the light, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
And behold, two men, Moses and Elijah appeared to them and they were talking with Jesus. They appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him. And it happened, as they were parting from him, that Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, Rabbi, and Master, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let us make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to say, for they were very afraid.
While he was still speaking and said these things, behold, a bright cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud. And behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.” And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were very afraid. And when the voice came, Jesus was found alone. And Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.” And suddenly looking around, lifting up their eyes, they saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone with themselves. And they were silent and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
