And it happened in these days that he went up, out, and into the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called to himself his disciples, those whom he wanted, and they went to him. And from them he appointed and chose twelve, whom he also named apostles, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach, and to have authority to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: And Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter; and James the son of Zebedee; and John, the brother of James, and he surnamed them Boanerges, which means, Sons of Thunder; and Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. (Luke’s sequence: Simon, whom he also named Peter; and Andrew, his brother, and James and John. Philip and Bartholomew. Matthew and Thomas, James, the son of Alphaeus and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas the son of James and Judas Iscariot, who also became a traitor.)
And he came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled by unclean spirits, and they were being healed. And all the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.
