1460632 Jesus questions the Pharisees on the son of David – Matthew 22:41-46, Mark 12:35-37, Luke 20:41-44,  April A.D. 29  Jerusalem

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple and asked them a question, saying to them, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?  Why do they say that the Christ is David’s son?  What do you think of the Christ?  Whose son is he?”  They said to him, “The son of David.”  He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,

sit on my right hand,

until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’”

For David himself said in the Holy Spirit and says in the book of Psalms,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,

“Sit at my right hand,

until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

“Therefore, if David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?”  And no one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him from that day forth any more questions.  And the common people heard him gladly.
