1400626 Authority challenged in the temple – Matthew 21:23-27, Mark 11:27-33, Luke 20:1-8, April A.D. 29 Jerusalem
And it happened on one of those days, they came again to Jerusalem. And when he had come walking into the temple, the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people came to him. As he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Gospel, they began saying to him and they asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things and who is giving you this authority to do these things?” And Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question, which if you answer and tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. Tell us: the baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven or from men? Answer me.” And they reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say and ask us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we should say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. We fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.” They feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet. And they answered Jesus that they did not know where it was from and said, “We do not know.” And Jesus also said to them, “Neither will I say to you by what authority I do these things.”
