0340510 Jesus heals a Centurion servant – Matthew 8:5-13, Luke 7:1-10, A.D. 27 Capernaum in Galilee

And after he had finished speaking in the hearing of the people, and when he entered into Capernaum, a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and at the point of death. And when he heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and save his servant. And they came to Jesus and they begged him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy that you should do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he built our synagogue for us.” And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.  Therefore, I did not even think myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.” Then the centurion came to him, asking him, and saying, “Lord, my servant lies in the house paralyzed, grievously tormented.”  And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” And the centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.  For I am also a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and say to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

And when Jesus heard these things he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude, those who followed him, “Most certainly I say to you, I have not found so great a faith, no, not even in Israel. And I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven, but the sons of the Kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way.  And as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And the servant was healed in that hour. And those who were sent, returned to the house, found that the servant was whole.
