0100601 The First Temple CleansingJohn 2:13-25, April A.D. 26 Jerusalem in Judea

And the Passover of the Jews was near.  And Jesus went up to Jerusalem and he found in the temple those selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers were sitting there.  And having made a whip of cords, He drove out all from the temple, both sheep and oxen and the money changers.  He poured out the coins and turned over the tables.  And to those selling doves He said, “Take these things from here, and do not make the house of my Father a house of trade!”  And His disciples remembered that which was written, “The zeal for your house will consume Me.”

Therefore, the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign will You show to us concerning these things that You do?”  Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”  Therefore, the Jews said, “This temple was built in forty-six years and You in three days will raise it up?”  He however was speaking concerning the temple of His body.  When He was raised up from the dead, his disciples remembered that He had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

When He was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in His name, observing from Him the signs that He was doing.  On His part, however, Jesus did not entrust himself to them because he knew all men and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man.  For He Himself knew what was in a man.
